Logistics

All right. All those who are jumping with us on 19th, 20th, and 21st, pay heed.

1. Reporting place – Sayaji Hotel Indore

2. Please take the FIRST available transport (Innova/Indica) from the time you land up. First trip leaves Sayaji at 0500 hrs and the second trip leaves Sayaji at 0930 hrs. All those leaving in the evening, pleawse take the 0500 hrs trip, otherwise you won’t make it back in time for your flight/train!!! All those coming AND leaving on the same day, and have missed both trips, please ask the “travel desk” for a cab and get to the DZ. The travel desk has all the info and the cabs know the way and place.

3. Rooms in Sayaji are at our disposal, but triple sharing is not working out as there aren’t enough folks coming in groups, so please ask Reception when you land up, if there are others you would like to share with. Also, there is Hotel Park across the road from Sayaji which you might like to try.

4. I have tried to place everybody in convenient slot timings as far as possible, so please be on time, as this whole event is finely calibrated. Transport WILL leave on times mentioned above, so please be on time.

5. Transport is at actuals (around 400-600 depending on number of people).

6. Any problems/queries, call me on 09822955149. Won’t be able to repond to e-mails, as I am on the fly from now onwards.

7. Get in the spirit of adventure and have fun, knowing that logistics is ALWAYS a nightmare!!!!

See you there.

Skydiving FAQs

Coming in to Land

Why jump out of a perfectly good airplane?

If you haven’t done it, you can’t understand it. If you have done it, you can’t explain it. It is the closest thing to being able to fly. It can be a life changing experience and a whole heap of fun. It is without a doubt the best way to find out what you are made of!.

How safe is this sport?

Skydiving is an extreme sport, and like any extreme sport there is a certain amount of risk involved. Skydiving is safer than driving a car the world over. The most dangerous part of your day is going to be driving to the drop zone! Skydiving is as safe as the individual makes it. With careful training and implementation, combined with reliable regularly maintained equipment to the highest standards, skydiving can be as safe as or safer than any other extreme sports. Our Tandem Masters have thousands of jumps and have a 100% safety record.  The equipment we use is also of the highest international quality and has a 100% safety record.

How fast do you Fall?

Exactly how fast you fall depends on a number of factors including body-position, weight, the type of clothing you’re wearing and even the weather. An average skydiver falls at about 220 km an hour. A tandem will fall faster than this but is slowed down to regular terminal velocity by the release of a small stabilising parachute called a drogue

Does weather affect skydiving?

Yes weather definitely can affect skydiving. We do not jump in unsafe weather conditions which includes rain or strong winds.

Are there female skydivers?

Yes, there are women who skydive all around the world on a regular basis.

What should I wear?

Make sure to wear comfortable casual clothes, jeans and a T-shirt will be ideal. We will provide you with a skydiving jumpsuit to wear over your clothes. Closed in shoes are a must, sneakers or runners that lace up firmly (no hooks). Please leave any valuable jewellery at home. All necklaces must be taken off and hair, if long, tied back.

Are there any physical requirements?

You need to be a generally healthy human being with an average fitness level. If you have any major concerns give us a call prior or seek a medical clearance.

Can family and friends watch?

Absolutely!! Our facilities ensure everyone is catered for. Friends and family can watch your training and enjoy a coffee or cold drink. Your family and friends can watch the day’s action safely from our surrounding grassed areas. You will take off from the airstrip and land back in our grassed landing area. Your family can even see you exit the aircraft 12,000ft up! Please note that children must be supervised at all times. Pets are not permitted on the drop zone.

How much time should I allow for my skydive?

As the Dropzone is around 2.5 hours away from Indore, it is wise to allow for a full day for your skydive. Please plan your travel accordingly.

Is it normal to be nervous?

Yes, it is absolutely normal to feel nervous. Jumping out of a perfectly good airplane is not something that normal people do every day. Your  Tandem  Master will make you feel as safe and confident as possible so that you do not miss a second of absolute adrenalin and amazing fun!! You will leave us feeling like you have not left the clouds….it is sooooo worth it!! It’s real living!

What happens if I am afraid of heights?

Believe it or not, a good percentage of skydivers and pilots are afraid of heights. From 12,000 ft up you will not experience vertigo like you would climbing a ladder or standing on top of a building. Skydiving is truly a unique feeling.

What does Freefall feel like?

Freefall is the closest a human can get to flying and no words can describe it!! In freefall, you are accelerated by gravity so you will not experience the stomach turns associated with roller coasters or park rides. It is addictive, breathtaking and out of this world. Ask a skydiver anywhere!!

How long is the Freefall?

From 12,000 feet, the freefall is approximately 55 seconds.

What happens if I get motion sickness?

It is very rare that anyone is sick in freefall. If you are prone to motion sickness eat light at least an hour before your booking time. It is very wise not to drink alcohol the night prior to Skydiving. If you do start to feel queasy under canopy, let your tandem master know so they can make minimum spirals and fly a slower more relaxing pace.

Does it hurt when the parachute opens?

You will feel a deceleration sensation as the canopy starts to open and sometimes a slight jolt, but you will be just fine. You will be more disappointed that the freefall is over!!

How long will I be under the parachute?

Then comes the canopy ride…. Your tandem instructor will deploy your parachute at approximately 5,000 feet. This will give you about 5 minutes to soak up the spectacular views of around our Dropzone  as you fly around under canopy. Fun jumpers may deploy their parachute at lower altitudes. Skydivers can find as big a thrill in canopy skills and flight as with freefall.

What happens if the parachute doesn’t work?

All skydiving rigs are equipped with two parachutes (main & reserve) by law. The main parachute is the one that gets used all the time. In the event that the main parachute is malfunctioning, the reserve parachute will be activated. In the event that no main parachute is deployed, all of our rigs are equipped with an automatic activation device (AAD) that will deploy the reserve parachute if you are still in freefall at a certain height. If you would like to understand more about our equipment please do not hesitate to ask.

How hard is the landing?

As a tandem student you will be instructed to lift your legs up in front of you so your tandem instructor can touch the ground first. You will glide in on your bottom and the landing impact is just like stepping off of a chair or a step. Tandem training will cover all safety instructions in about 15minutes. Please see the Tandem skydiving videos on this blog.

What is a “Fun Jumper”?

A “fun-jumper” is just another term for a licensed skydiver, that is, someone who has completed their solo (AFF) course. Once you have completed your AFF course and received your “A” license, you can go for a skydive by yourself or with other fun jumpers whenever you like!

How do I become a licensed skydiver?

You can learn to skydive with us using the Accelerated Free Fall (AFF) method. We will start the course shortly, though it is not available at present. If you are interested, drop us a mail, and we’ll keep you posted.

The AFF course consists of nine stages. Each stage needs to be successfully completed before moving on to the next. At the end of the course you are licensed to skydive on your own. To become a fully licensed skydiver you will need to meet the requirements for the International A License. The requirements are that you successfully complete the AFF Course, know how to pack a parachute for your own use and have had 10 unassisted landings within 25m of a nominated  target. This takes 25 skydives including your AFF. Your A license allows you to jump at drop zones all around the world. What an awesome way to travel and meet some fantastic people!!

Learning to skydive solo

Last week has been hectic but fruitful. But the most satisfying thing has been that folks are getting interested and skydiving is getting “demystified”, and more so that quite a few guys want to learn how to skydive solo (no girls yet!!). Four of them want to do the course in September itself!!! Actually, once you do the AFF course (9 jumps) and 16 consolidation jumps, the 25 jumps get you an ‘A’ license, then skydiving becomes an inexpensive sport with a solo jump then costing as little as Rs 1200, and you can jump anywhere in the world!!!

In New Delhi, I met up with Rachel Thomas, who has been honoured with the Padma Shri award for her contribution to skydiving in India. A humble, sincere and inspiring lady, she has done stuff we can only imagine. She has promised to try and make it to the Boogie in September. I hope she comes,  so all of us can get to meet her.

Lazlo, Pench and 19th September is full!

My friend Lazlo and his girlfriend Ida are going to jump with us in September. Lazlo is an ace skydiver with more than 8200 skydives, out of which more than 3000 are Tandem jumps! So, both our TM’s for the boogie, Aaron and Lazlo,  are among the best in the business, with 100% safety records.

The last three days in the Pench Tiger Reserve were pure bliss. Living on a Machaan, having Tigers, Leopards, Foxes, Sambhars ….. for company, driving a gypsy offroad in Real wild terrain…. didn’t want to came back for anything…Except Skydiving of course!!!

Speaking of skydiving, slots for 19th  September are full.

Guest Blog: Aaron Marriott

Aaron has written on our blog as a guest when I requested him to, so that you can know all about him, from the horse’s mouth!! The most important factor in inviting him over is his 100% safety record, besides him being a very good human being. – Pradeep

Hi All,

I am Pradeep’s good friend, I know him from Mercer in Auckland where we jumped together. When he asked me to come over and jump in India, I couldn’t refuse him, now could I? A bit about myself, so I can make new friends in India too.

I have been Skydiving for 13 years. 4 years full time. I have a total of 3900 jumps. I am an AFF jumpmaster. Tandem Jumpmaster. and a Freefly Coach. I have competed nationally and currently hold the NZ Freefly gold medal.
I have done aprox 400 jumps in the UK. 400jumps in America, and also jumped in Switzerland, Zimbabwe , Praguay, Argentina. Being a skydiver opens up the whole world for you. I have been twice as a freefly load organiser to the Boogie Guarani in South America. both in 07 and 08.

I have done over 2000 Tandem Jumps. Jumped from Helicopters, Hot Air Balloons and Bridges. I will be bringing a STRONG tandem Rig to the Boogie with an Icarus Main Canopy. The main things in skydiving are safety and having fun.

Im really looking forward to coming back to India as I travelled there 10 years ago as a backpacker, I travelled mainly in the North in Deli, Agra, Varenasi, Amritser and up into Kasmir.

I Love the food and the different culture that the Indian people have so am looking forward to engaging in that.

See you all soon at the Boogie, and I look forward to jumping with the lucky ones out of a perfectly good Airplane.

Aaron Marriott
